The Carton new issue's cover design
I drew plants. For The Carton’s first of its kind three-volume edition, N.16, I created three different cover patterns, one for each volume.
The artwork for Volume 1 is of tangled, multicolored bougainvilleas often found in seaside towns, especially along the Mediterranean. The cover for Volume 2 is an illustration of kumquat fruits, as though floating off their tree. A staple of The Carton’s “asrouniyeh” gatherings, the kumquat tree was chosen for this volume as a symbol for protecting not only resources but also, equally as important, heritage from extinction. For Volume 3, I depicted the diversity of Jasminum, particularly focusing on “fil” or “ful”, which is also known as Arabian Jasmine.
